Young fire raisers to be referred for remedial education

04 February 2010

A fire safety programme aimed at young people between four and 17 years old who are known or suspected troublemakers with fire has been launched by Lancashire Fire and Rescue.

The FIRES course is aimed at arsonists and youngsters playing with fire, making hoax calls, or attacking fire and rescue personnel. The course consists of an ‘individual education plan’ to increase their awareness of the dangers and consequences of fire and to learn basic fire safety skills.

Young people can be referred by parents, schools, the police or their doctors. The number of one-to one sessions a youngster will receive will depend on the reasons for the referral and an assessment of the individual.
