Xtralis to launch smoke detection technology for open spaces

21 April 2011

Xtralis has launched a new smoke detection product specially designed for open spaces such as warehouses and manufacturing facilities.

Its Open Area Smoke Imaging Detection technology, or OSID, will be on display at International Firex, from 16-19 May at Birmingham’s NEC. (Hall 5, stand F45).

OSID has been designed to have immunity to reflections, vibrations and extreme building movement; as well as dust, steam, fog, condensation and other obstructions, Xtralis said.

The product beat 84 entries to win ‘Judge’s Choice Award’ last month at the ISC West 2011 New Product Showcase.

Mr Rymenans, project manager for VAG Security, which had the system fitted at a manufacturing plant, said: ‘The system is now running for three months without any faults or false alarms while being subjected to vibration, building movement and continuous moving cranes in the facility."

“The installation took only 25% of the time we would have spent on installing beam detectors if these had been able to operate in this environment”.

OSID has been built to produce cover over a large area. Up to seven emitters can be placed within the field of view of a single imager, each placed at different heights, the company said.  The imager's large viewing angles, both horizontal and vertical, enable three-dimensional area coverage.
