Wireless detection for Cheltenham Gold Cup jewellers26 January 2011A jewellers in Cheltenham that dates back to the early 1800s has been fitted with a wireless fire alarm system from Detectomat. Selected and installed by Mainpoint Fire Protection, the system protects Martin & Co, a shop that produces the gold cup for Cheltenham’s annual national hunt. A quick and quiet installation was specified for the four-storey building, so as not to discourage any potential business. A spokesman from Detectomat said: “As an historic town, Cheltenham is full of historic buildings which demand particular treatment. Specialist equipment and sensitive installations are needed to ensure that the fabric of the buildings remains intact and business in such a busy tourist town is disrupted as little as possible." Alan Gatenby, Mainpoint’s fire protection consultant said: “As opposed to the week it takes to install a conventional system, we can be in and out in less than a day. "It is also a noiseless operation, vital in a retail premises. All things considered, it is ideal for the sort of businesses found in Cheltenham and the price is more than offset by the savings on labour costs. The time savings allow us as installers to take on more commissions and to satisfy a greater number of customers.”
