Waste recycling centre gets aspirating smoke detection

13 August 2010

Cawley’s Materials recycling depot in Luton has been fitted with an aspirating smoke detection system from AirSense Technology.

The Stratos system has been installed to try and prevent false alarms and logistical problems occurring in the facility.

Initially protected by conventional smoke detectors and beam detectors, Cawley’s specified a solution that would not react to the unusual level of movement and disruption in the area.

Stratos-HSSD, fitted by Blaze Fire & Security, has been designed to separate smoke from other air pollutants such as dust and gases.

The detectors incorporate artificial intelligence technology called ClassiFire which should allow settings to continuously by configured to suit their environment. A dual stage filter inside the detectors should also remove large dust particles so that the light scattering effect of the optical smoke detector is not compromised.
