Tower block fire safety in petition to Downing Street19 November 2009A national database of all UK tower blocks showing when they were last subject to a fire risk assessment is one of the demands made in a petition to the Prime Minister. The Number 10 e-petition would also require landlords to post emergency procedure information on all tower block corridors, and make it a requirement to hardwire carbon monoxide detectors into new homes by amending Part J of the building regulations. The petition, which was submitted by Tom Lloyd of trade magazine, Inside Housing, sates: "We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to stop preventable deaths from gas or fire by changing building regulations concerning the use of carbon monoxide detectors, improving the information available to tower block residents, and setting up a database of tower blocks including information on fire risk assessments." |
