The system remotely monitors up to 12 firefighters' exact statusEvacuation procedures at Dorset Fire and Rescue Service have improved after the implementation of an electronic monitoring and telemetry system.
The service is already witnessing the benefits of the Draeger PSS Merlin system, which has improved communications and evacuation procedures, helping protect its firefighters.
The Draeger PSS Merlin 7000 continuously transmits and receives data from up to 12 individual firefighters simultaneously. Unlike traditional manual or semi-manual systems, it remotely monitors their exact status from outside the incident and provides the entry control officer with continuously updated information, enabling them to react immediately in an emergency.
Firefighters have also said that radio communications, which used to be difficult because of the high levels of noise from the main fire alarm, are not an issue as software gives the firefighter all the information they need in terms of gauge readings and how each team is working.
