Steel protection for Dublin Airport’s new terminal

09 April 2010

Promat has supplied fire protection solutions for the structural steel frame of the new €600 million Terminal 2 building at Dublin Airport.

Dublin Airport's Terminal 2 building is due to open later this year

It makes up part of a €2 billion programme to transform the airport.

Installers Permafix Construction Solutions fitted more than 40,000m2 of Promat’s Vermiculux board to the building. Designed to give two hours of fire protection to the frame, the Vermiculux is described as a lightweight non-combustible board that can be fitted at any time during the construction process, including before the external walls are built. It is also designed not to disintegrate, warp or swell when exposed in adverse weather conditions.

Project manager, Giles Cranidge, who is from main contractor Mace, said: “The experience we have gained from working with Promat on other projects of this scale makes them the clear choice for fire protection solutions.”
