A spectacular and rare ‘fire tornado’ caused by strong dry winds and wildfires has hit an area of Brazil.
The flaming whirlwind several metres high struck near the city of Aracatuba and swept through burning fields, bringing nearby traffic to a standstill.
The region has suffered a three-month drought and a succession of wildfires, with humidity levels said to be as low as those in the Saraha desert.
