Smoke control and passive ventilation systems have been installed at the London Transport Museum as part of a multi-million pound refurbishment.
SCS Group have installed a system which uses low level glazed louvers to allow air in, while high level windows fitted with actuators extract the air.
SCS fitted actuators to 104 Victorian windows, developing new brackets and chains to enable the building management system to control the automatic synchronised opening and closing of the temperature sensitive windows, which are situated high above the museum's exhibits in its roof.
"Working on a listed building is always challenging," said Robert Davies, SCS Group senior project manager. "The combined system we installed works off the fire mode and the building's management system (BMS). For instance, if the fire alarms are activated all the windows are automatically opened and remain open until the fire alarm system is reset.
"The combined system will ensure the safety and maximum comfort of the museum's staff and visitors while reducing the building's energy and maintenance costs and helping the environment," he added.
