Serious Tesco’s fire devastates kitchen04 February 2011A serious fire at a Tesco’s in Plymouth was due to an electrical fault in a refrigerating unit. The fire spread to the roof of the supermarket’s kitchen and fractured a water pipe. According to local news reports, around 60,000 gallons of water then poured through the retail space, flooding offices on the first floor and flowing through to the ground floor. The kitchen was “severely damaged”, a spokesman from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service told info4fire. Around 10 firefighters tackled the blaze, on 28 January, after the alarm was raised at 1 pm. The fire was mostly out just under an hour later. The store, which is near Crownhill, has been reopened. It is thought to have been accidental. By Amy Rowe 03/02/11 |
