The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, GlasgowThe Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow has had over 50,000 metres of Prysmian FP200 Gold® and FP600S fire-resistant cabling installed to help ensure that the only danger cyclists face in the 2014 Commonwealth Games, is a crash on track.
While much of the nations focus remains on London and next years’ Olympics, Glasgow have been busy preparing for the largest sporting event to have ever taken place in Scotland.
Part of the National Sports Arena, one of the largest indoor sports facilities in Europe, the Velodrome contains a 250m high banked wooden cycle track. The Prysmian cables are used to supply essential services including emergency lighting, fire alarms and the PA system.
Christopher Allen is operations director for FES, the electrical contractor for the project, and he explained why these cables were the best choice.
“After a lot of research we decided to use Prysmian due to their excellent reputation and that their cables came with BASEC and LPCB approval.”
He also praised the cables for being easy to install.
