Restaurant and flats evacuated in blaze

06 September 2010

Around 20 people were forced to flee a building in Uxbridge, London, after a fire broke out in a restaurant on the ground floor.

Four fire engines and 20 firefighters attended the blaze, which started a little before 6.30pm on 29 August. Around one quarter of the restaurant was damaged by fire.

Crews rescued ten diners, while a further ten people had managed to escape their flats upstairs before the London Fire Brigade arrived.

The fire was under control by 7.30pm. An investigation into the cause is underway.
