More than 100 patients had to be evacuated from a hospital on the outskirts of York after a patient set fire to a bedroom on Friday night.
The fire at Stockton Hall psychiatric hospital began just after 7.30pm and spread quickly through the single storey building. Residents of the 32-bed hospital were all evacuated with no reports of injuries.
Around 50 firefighters battled the blaze, which was brought under control at 10pm by eight pumping appliances and an aerial ladder platform. Fire spread to parts of the roof but crews managed to contain the blaze to one part of the building.
A 23-year-old man has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life and is to appear at York Magistrates Court on 26 May.
