Over £100,000 awarded to electrical safety schemes

30 August 2010

Electric blanket testing days, training sessions for young carers and fire safety awareness events are just three of the schemes that have received funding from a fire safety award scheme.

Some 23 organisation will share over £100,000 in the Electrical Safety Council’s Fire Safety Fund scheme.
Award winners include the Risk Factory, an Edinburgh safety organisation which is developing a new programme to highlight everyday electrical dangers to people over 60.

Another winning a scheme, this time from Wandsworth Council, is aimed at giving information in an easily accessible format to young carers, who are otherwise potentially isolated.

Announcing the successful projects, Lorraine Carney, campaigns manager at the Electrical Safety Council said: “Our charity is all about helping people to stay safe: we are delighted to work with local partners to support immediate and effective campaigns that can have a real impact. The Fire Safety Fund awards are designed to help initiatives that may not receive mainstream funding and in the current climate we see this role being more important than ever.”
