Nine recognised in new years honours

Nine fire and rescue professionals have been honoured in this year’s New Year's Honours list, reports the Chief Fire Officers Association.

London Fire Brigade commissioner, Ron Dobson, received a CBE for services to local government.

Those awarded with MBEs are Stephen Jordan, watch manager at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service for service to Operation Florian in Macedonia, and Neil Woodmansey, for services to UK International Search and Rescue.

Recipients of the Queen's Fire Service medal are:

• John Boyce, service functions and events co-ordinator, British Fire Service (Surrey Fire and Rescue Service)
• James Clark, latterly risk information inspector of Grampian Fire and Rescue Service
• Richard Hannigan, assistant chief fire officer, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service
• Brian McClintock, area commander, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service
• Robert Proudfoot, inter-agency liaison group support manager, London Fire Brigade
• David Smith, area commander, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue

Commenting on his CBE, Mr Dobson said:

“This honour represents everything good about my 31 years service at what I consider to be the best fire brigade in the world. I’d like to dedicate it to my family, and the hard work and dedication of London firefighters and all Brigade staff.”
