A new detection and alarm system has been installed at the Loftus Versfeld stadium in Pretoria, in time for this month’s Wold Cup football competition.

The stadium-wide system comprises a mixture of optical smoke detectors and heat detectors. Areas covered include hospitality suites, stadium management offices, press areas, ticket offices, locker, medical and training rooms, and server and telecoms rooms.

The devices are connected to four FPA 5000 panels. These in turn are connected to a third party management system which provides a user interface in the PA announcer’s office. Evacuation of the stadium is effected manually after investigation by stadium staff.

The modular nature of the panel enabled it to be easily configured to conditions at the Loftus Versfeld stadium, says Bosch.

The stadium’s manager, Hugo Kemp, said: “The Bosch Fire panel offers a number of advantages, one being its expandability in that it is able to cater for our immediate requirements while remaining flexible enough to expand as we require, without the need for additional panels to be installed.”
