Firetech’s managing director, Brian Vassallo, said: “We have a great deal of experience within the retail sector and devised a strategy that would enable The Atrium to install a fire detection system which would provide the highest levels of safety.”
Firetech’s tender suggested the installation of Hochiki Europe’s products throughout. Vassallo said: “We have been an installer of Hochiki’s fire detection systems for 19 years and due to their extensive range, proven reliability and excellent support service, we knew that their products could fulfill all of The Atrium’s requirements.”
The building’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning were also integrated into the addressable fire control panel.
Firetech specified a wide range of Hochiki products including heat sensors, mains relay controllers, door retainers, beacons, call points, sounders and sensor bases.
More than 265 of Hochiki’s ALG-EN optical smoke sensors were installed, as well as a number of beam detectors placed around The Atrium’s glass roof.
A Hochiki spokesperson said: “The fire detection system has been configured so that in the event of an alarm condition within one particular area of The Atrium, a signal from the control panel will be provided to security and the reception area personnel who have five minutes to investigate the cause. After this time the entire system will go into alarm so that staff can assist with the prompt evacuation of the premises.”
