08 June 2011

A new office block in Paddington, London, has been installed with Draka’s FT120 enhanced-category 0HLS halogen-free alarm cable.

Designed by architects Sheppard Robson, the 24,619 square metre, glass-fronted One Kingdom Street building is the latest addition to the PaddingtonCentral development outside Paddington Station.

The nine-storey building’s occupants include Vodafone, software specialist, Mysis, Vodafone, and energy exploration company, Statoil.

The Draka cable was chosen by contractor EA Electrical. EA Electrical’s contracts director, Terry Burkin, said: “The spotlight has really been turned on ensuring safe evacuation from multi-storey buildings in recent years.  This can often take some time to achieve and the entire fire detection and alarm system depends on the cable continuing to function.

“We chose Draka’s FT120 because it comes with the added assurance of being third-party tested and approved by both Loss Prevention Certification Board and British Approvals Service for Cables."
