Intrinsically Safe manual call point

16 October 2009

KAC has launched a new intrinsically safe addressable indoor manual call point. The new version of the MCP5A-IS has been tested and approved by LPCB for use in Zone 1 hazardous areas.

The new device, available to suit flush or surface mounted versions, enables the manual initiation of an addressable fire alarm system to be implemented from within the hazardous area where potentially explosive gases are occasionally present during normal operations. The units are rated II 1G Ex ia IIC T4.

The call point is powered from the loop in the normal way, with the loop entering the hazardous area through a suitably approved IS barrier. The unit has a ‘plug and play' concept designed to reduce installation time and hence reduce the overall system cost.

Available with either a traditional break glass or a resettable operating element, the device uses a terminal block into which the loop cabling is terminated, enabling continuity and ground fault checking without the need for the device to be present. The terminal block is then simply connected to the back of the call point unit.
