Heinz factory fitted with fire panels

02 March 2011

A Heinz baby food factory has been installed with two networked Morley-IAS fire panels.

The Zx5Se panels make up part of a system designed by Draper Fire that provides protection throughout the 40-acre site, in Kendal, Cumbria.

“We already had significant experience of the plant, having provided maintenance support for the previous fire safety system,” said Kevin Draper, owner and managing director of Draper Fire

“As a result, we were confident that a Morley-IAS-based solution would offer the robustness and adaptability required, both in terms of implementation and ongoing operation. At the same time, as Morley-IAS offers an open protocol approach this flexibility extends to the provision of maintenance services.”

Phase one included the installation of a ZX5Se panel in the security gatehouse, followed by a second, networked Morley-IAS panel in the factory. These supported the phased introduction of upgraded heat and fire detectors, call points and sounders throughout the site.

The panel was then linked to loop-driven smoke beams protecting the roof void within the factory and previously external warehouse protection has also been moved onto the main factory panel in order to improve configuration and loading.

Draper said: “The result is a highly flexible and easy to operate system, which both minimises the risk of false alarms – avoiding costly interruptions in a high volume factory environment – and maintains the integrity of smoke detection across all parts of the site.”
