Golfer’s dodgy swing sparks 12-acre blaze02 September 2010A wildfire in California was apparently sparked after a golfer missed a ball and chipped his club on a rock. The move led to a fierce fire on a densely wooded hill by the Shady Canyon golf course in Irvine, Orange County, according to the Orange County Register. Almost 200 firefighters backed by a helicopter tackled the blaze, according to the report. Orange County fire authority Capt. Greg McKeown told the newspaper that the fire was probably started when a golfer was trying to get his ball out of the rough. No charges were filed against the mystery golfer, who remains unnamed.
