Fire service cooks up 'recipes for disaster'22 September 2010
Blazing beans, smokin’ sausages and boozy flambé are just three of the terrible cooking ideas included in Recipes for Disaster, a ‘cookbook’ on kitchen fire safety. The booklet from London Fire Brigade was handed out to the public at Borough Market, one of the capital’s foodie venues, where firefighters helped a chef cook up a range of recipes and showed shoppers how to stay safe in the kitchen. London Fire Brigade statistics show that young professionals account for over 25% of all kitchen fires. Events were also held throughout the week across nine London boroughs, targeting other groups who have high levels of kitchen fires such as older people, families and people who live in rented accommodation. The week ended with open days at fire stations across the capital, where over 4,500 people received kitchen safety advice. Find out more about the Cooksafe campaign and Recipes for Disaster here. |
