Fire service contributes to residential sprinkler scheme

15 November 2009

Residential sprinkler systems have been fitted to seven homes in Hampshire in a joint initiative between Sentinel Housing Association, Southern Water and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.

As part of its campaign to promote the installation of sprinklers in the homes of vulnerable people, the fire and rescue service has contributed £11,000 towards the installation at the Bishops Green development.

Stakeholders at Bishops Green“We are very pleased to have joined forces with Sentinel Housing Association to show that domestic sprinklers can save lives,” said John Bonney, chief officer of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and president of the Chief Fire Officer’s Association.

He added: “One of the key factors driving risks of fire and injury is the ever increasing number of vulnerable people living within the community. For this reason, our service is campaigning to dispel the misconceptions and myths surrounding sprinkler systems. We welcome this partnership with Sentinel Housing Association and applaud those who run it for their forward-thinking in investing in some of the best fire safety protection available.”
