The BWF-Certifire fire door and doorset scheme has been holding seminars about the importance of third party certificated fire doors. Among these, the organisation has delivered a seminar to employees of Grosvenor Facilities Management.
Ed Gee, deputy works manager of the facilities company, said: "We have run one successful seminar in conjunction with the BWF-Certifire fire door and doorset scheme, and have plans for another two to fulfil the high level of demand within our organisation. Our staff have a responsibility to ensure that fire doors are fitted and maintained correctly so that they function correctly in the event of a fire. The resources and advice provided by the scheme are really helpful, and I would recommend any organisation to look into hosting a seminar to ensure that all those in the facilities management sector and beyond know their responsibilities when it comes to fire safety."
John Fletcher, manager of the BWF-Certifire scheme said: "In the past few months we have come across many horror stories of poor fire door installations, probably caused by specifiers and their contractors who appear to be cutting corners to save money. Often, these are in new buildings including hospitals, care homes and student accommodation. Poor installation and skimping on the use of certified products could have devastating effects in the event of a fire, and so the scheme is working hard to eliminate these dangerous practices and continue to educate people about their responsibilities when it comes to fire safety."
