Family firm is 300th accredited to BAFE detection and alarm scheme

14 June 2010

A family run business in Essex has become the 300th firm to be accredited under the BAFE SP203-1 scheme for fire detection and alarm systems.

Day2Day (trading as ITS Fire and Security) began installing fire alarm systems around 18 months ago and, says managing director Rob Day, most of their enquiries have been through recommendations.

“Being BAFE registered gives us the edge over our competitors. The ‘responsible person’ can be reassured by our BAFE certification that we are a ‘competent’ installation company for their fire alarm requirements, and that when we hand their system over it is compliant with the BS5839 category stated, and a full after-sales and maintenance regime will be applied.”

SP203-1 has a modular structure comprising: system design; system installation; commissioning; and ongoing maintenance. This, says BAFE, helps companies who only want accreditation in one or two of the modules to still be able to seek third party approval.

“SP203-1 will continue to help installers provide an experienced and dependable service,” said Stephen Adams, BAFE’s general manager. “BAFE will continue to ensure that competent companies can show their customers a real difference in the quality of their work and also to ensure that only these companies use our logo as the quality mark.”
