Emergency fire safety light for children praised by ex-fire chief22 November 2010A fire safety product for children made by a start-up company has been praised by the former president of the UK Fire Chiefs' Association.
Mounted on the door frame of a child's bedroom door, Life Light omits a strobe light that will help firefighters locate missing children in a fire. The light is triggered by smoke and has been designed to penetrate 'the densest' of smoke, according to Cambridge-based Life Light Rescue. Tom Carroll, past president of the UK Fire Chief's Association and former chief fire Officer of Cambridgeshire, said of the product:"It is to fire safety what cat’s eyes are to road safety". It has been almost three years in the development and patent process. The company has pledged that 20p from each unit sale will go to charity, 10p to Children in Need and 10p to the Fire Fighters Charity. Andy Fry, chief fire officer of Suffolk, at Suffolk County Council, said: "This is a very interesting idea. One of the greatest challenges for fire fighters is about rapidly locating and removing people from smoke filled buildings. Any device that will assist in this respect will be welcome in helping to address this challenge.” |
