Crews tackle blaze in high-rise flats

23 July 2010

Crews were called to fight a fire in a block of flats in Hove on Wednesday afternoon.

Four fire engines, along with twenty-one firefighters attended the blaze on the roof of the six-storey building.

It took a little over an hour for crews to get the flames under control, staying until 4pm to dampen down and cut away parts of the damaged structure as well as checking for hotspots. No-one was injured.

A press release from the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “In light of the recent tragedies involving high-rise block fires in other parts of the UK, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service is actively consulting local residents on fire safety.”
