Crews spend weekend tackling £2m farm fire - VIDEO
16 August 2011
Around 30 firefighters spent last weekend tackling a suspected arson attack on a South Yorkshire farm.
The fire at Brecks Lane farm in East Herringthorpe started around 4.20pm on Saturday 6 August. The barns contained farm machinery, diesel fuel, fertiliser and other farming equipment, but livestock at the site was saved.
The fire caused an estimated £2m worth of damage.
Residents were initially advised to stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed, as firefighters used main jets, foam and hose reels to tackle the fire. The safety warning was later rescinded as crews brought the incident under control and the column of thick, black smoke was reduced.
