Crews fight petrol station fire in South Wales

15 June 2010

Around 40 firefighters attended a blaze at a service station in Mountain Ash, South Wales, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

An emergency call was received at 2am, and the blaze had taken hold in the station’s shop. The building was evacuated along with nearby homes while crews tackled the fire. Later, a spokesman from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze had left the building "severely damaged."

The firewas brought under control just before 5am and nobody was harmed. A total of 11 appliances were used, including two jets and an aerial ladder platform.

The BBC reported that power supply to the petrol pumps was “quickly isolated.”
