'CO Angels' raise the carbon monoxide alarm at Westminster23 November 2010
Three women who have lost loved ones to carbon monoxide poisoning have helped launch an awareness campaign at the Houses of Parliament. Dubbed the CO Angels, the women launched their campaign last week at a meeting of the all party parliamentary gas safety group at Westminster. The initiative is in conjunction with Sprue Safety Products, manufacturers of the FireAngel brand of CO and smoke alarms. Stacey Rodgers, from Huddersfield, said: “The CO Angels came about following long discussions between Vikki, Melissa and I about losing our loved ones. We were all so frustrated at losing Dom, Tony and Bob, as their deaths could have been easily prevented by a carbon monoxide alarm.” Vikki Courtman, from Peterborough, added that although the three women met under unfortunate circumstances, they hoped to use their experiences to help raise awareness of carbon monoxide poisoning and prevent more needless deaths. Melissa Matthews, from Hertfordshire, said by working under the CO Angels umbrella, the women hoped to raise even more awareness and persuade people to install an audible alarm in their homes. The campaign urges everyone to ensure that all gas appliances are checked annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer, the scheme that has replaced CORGI. |
