Blaze destroys rock band’s recording studio - VIDEO11 January 2012A fire has gutted the recording studio and storage facility of Bradford based post-punk band, New Model Army. 10 fire crews and two aerial appliances attended the fire, which broke out at around 4.00 pm on Christmas Eve at a furniture outlet next door. The fire spread to the band’s premises, housed in a converted mill. A logistics support unit and major salvage unit also attended the scene and the fire was brought under control by around 6.30 pm. The studio was severely damaged and its roof collapsed. “We have lost our entire studio set-up - desk, microphones, recording gear etc - and many irreplaceable instruments,” said a statement on the band’s website. However, the group was able to salvage some of its touring equipment. “It is amazing what can be pulled out of totally melted flightcases...with varying degrees of smoke and water damage.” A group of volunteers helped with the clear-up, filling five skips of charred remnants “We have honestly been amazed and humbled by this response. Our gratitude and respect goes out to all of you. And lastly, but certainly not least, we'd like to thank the firefighters who contained the fire and saved the Mill (and even some of our equipment) in difficult and dangerous conditions.” The cause of the fire is still under investigation by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. |
