Seventy-five firefighters tackled a blaze that left around 50,000 tonnes of wood chippings damaged at a recycling plant.
The fire in West Drayton, Middlesex, also damaged two JCB diggers and is thought to have affected half of the 60,000 sq m site.
Firefighters were called to the industrial wood recycling plant at just before 3.45am on 4 October, bringing the blaze under control at around 11.45am.
Heathrow Primary School was forced to close all day due to the incident.
Crews remained at the site for much of the day. Station manager Turan Turan, said: “Our crews worked extremely hard to minimise the damage and disruption caused by this fire. There were around 50,000 tonnes of woodchip on site so it’s easy to imagine how intense the fire was and how much smoke it generated.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation by London Fire Brigade’s fire investigation unit.
