Around 120 people have been evacuated from a fire in a privately owned block of flats in the Marylebone area of central London.
Some 75 firefighters and 15 appliances were called to the blaze at Berkley Court in Glentworth Street shortly before 2.00 am yesterday. The fire, which broke out in a 10-room apartment on the fourth floor of the eight-storey art deco building, took more than three hours to bring under control but did not spread to any adjoining flats.
Around 120 people evacuated the building, three of whom needed assistance from fire crews. Two people were taken to hospital feeling unwell from the effects of the fire, while two firefighters were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.
An investigation into the fire is underway though the cause is not thought to be suspicious.
