Top performance: Birmingham City FC stadium has new fire detection equipment

Birmingham City Football Club has installed new fire detection equipment at its St Andrews stadium.

Argus Services, which has been working with the club since 1999, has replaced an old pre-dated system with a solution from Hochiki Europe because the club was having problems with unwanted alarms.

The club has installed a BS5839 compliant Category L4 addressable fire detection system based around Hochiki’s Enhanced Systems Protocol (ESP).

Hochiki products installed, include 84 call points, 59 base sounders, 33 sounder controllers, 25 mains relay output units, 45 multi-sensors and 321 optical smoke sensors.

Argus Services md, Jerry Matthews, said: “Its old system was proving to be a problem due to unwanted alarms, so rather than keep trying to repair obsolete equipment we advised that the only real solution was to install a new system.”

Birmingham City FC’s stadium manager, Peter Smith, said: “The new system has made a real difference to our day-to-day operations. No longer do we have to experience the disruption caused by unwanted alarms.”
