Apple offers replacement iPods after fire risk identified

22 November 2011

Apple has said that in very rare cases batteries in its first generation iPod nano may overheat, causing a fire risk.

The fault has been traced to a single battery supplier and affects units that were sold between September 2005 and December 2006. Although the risk is very small, the likelihood grows as the battery ages.

The move could cost the company millions of pounds, according to a report in the Guardian.

The company recommends that people affected should stop using their iPods and claim a free replacement player.
