Early warning of fire is a feature of Delhi's new airport terminal

The recently opened terminal 3 building at Delhi International Airport is being protected by an aspirating smoke detection system from Xtralis.

The Vesda system has been installed to provide early detection of fire in baggage handling, retail and check-in areas.

According to Xtralis, the system was specified because of its advantages in protecting large, open spaces where smoke may be ‘diluted’. It works by continuously sampling air to detect even the smallest smoke particles, so preventing a small fire from becoming a major incident, explains the company.

“Vesda buys time to investigate an alarm and initiate an appropriate response to prevent injury, property damage or business disruption,” says the company. “And because Vesda detectors are highly sensitive and their pipe networks, which have multiple sampling points, can be placed where smoke is most likely to travel, they excel at detecting diluted smoke.”
