Air sampling for new Wexford opera house

15 January 2010

Air sampling smoke detection technology from Wagner UK has been used to help protect Ireland’s newest theatre complex, the Wexford Opera House.

Air sampling is used in the main auditorium

The opera house comprises a main auditorium, the O’Reilly Theatre, which can seat 780 people. A second, highly flexible space, the Jerome Hynes Theatre, has a retractable seating capacity of 175. Dublin based DML Fire Systems installed Wagner’s Titanus ProSens systems to provide early warning smoke detection for the large open spaces of the main auditorium and flytower.

The system draws air samples continuously from the monitored area through a pipe system fitted with sampling holes at regular intervals. The airflow is then analysed for smoke particles and an alarm is raised if smoke is present.

To meet the low ambient noise requirements of the theatre, the air sampling smoke detection units are fitted with high performance fans and additional sound proofing.
