The Portman Estate has benefitted from the use of the Prysmian and Afumex cablesGrade 2 listed buildings represent a significant challenge to the fire safety industry as their structures were not imagined with modern day services in mind.
Prysmian’s FP200 Gold and Afumex LSX with Earthshield cable have been specified for use in fire alarm and power systems at the Portman Estate in Marylebone, London, most recently in 66 Great Cumberland Place, where work was completed in September 2011
Project engineer for Leonard Engineering, Stewart Slack said, “Afumex LSX was used on this project in place of twin and earth which would have required additional mechanical protection. We can install Afumex LSX with confidence and fix it with ease as Earthshield technology requires no additional safety precautions such as metal conduit.”
Afumex LSX is the first cable of its kind and passes all the requirement of the BS7671 17th edition wiring regulations, according to Prysmian.
Mr Slack said that they now specify both Afumex and FP200 Gold for all their operations.
