Aerosol suppression system reduces risk for machine tools

05 July 2010

Machine tool specialist Citizen Machinery is fitting aerosol fire suppression systems as standard to its range of sliding head lathes.

Stat-X from Nobel Fire Systems is a potassium based that works by chemically interfering with free radicals produced in a fire.

The sliding head lathes operate at high speeds, often round-the-clock and sometimes unattended. In order to manage such a risk, the fitting of automatic fire suppression is often stipulated by insurers.

“End users continue to demand tighter tolerances, faster deliveries, and lower costs,” said Nobel’s commercial director, Ben Parker. “It’s therefore absolutely essential that companies such as Citizen can resolve concerns about ease of use and cost, while at the same time adding value to the proposition by providing the best fire suppression equipment installed as standard on all equipment.”

Stat-X aerosol generators are cost-effective, virtually maintenance-free and have a shelf life of over 10 years, says Nobel.
