30 firefighters tackle London tower block blaze

20 September 2011

An investigation is under way after a blaze ripped through a tower block flat in Fulham.

Around 25 people escaped the burning building before the fire service arrived. Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters attended the incident just before 2pm on 13 September, with London Fire Brigade control officers receiving more than 20 calls to attend the incident.

Fire damaged around half of a five roomed flat on the sixth floor of the 17-storey block. The blaze was under control at around 2.45pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fulham station manager Lisa Hicks who was at the incident said: "Fortunately no-one was injured in this incident and our crews will now be visiting properties in the area to talk to residents about fire safety."
