£100,000 up for grabs in electrical fire safety initiative

14 July 2010

The Electrical Safety Council is offering grants of £5000 each to organisations which promote electrical fire safety awareness.

Now in its second year, the council’s electrical fire prevention scheme aims to reduce deaths and injuries from electrical fires around the UK. Anyone can apply for a grant, but the deadline for applications is this Friday 16 July.

Last year the initiative funded 29 community safety projects. Gloucestershire County Council’s trading standards service, for example, tested the safety of goods bought online; while Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service used the funding to support their Junior Fire Safety Citizen scheme, where 10-11 year olds carried out a basic home fire safety check for an elderly person.

Hi My name is Shaun McGowan and I work for the Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service
I am in the process of putting together an initiative addressing the safety of electrical blankets, especially within the elderly population.
We have carried out this initiative previously with partners including trading standards and the council. unfortunately, this funding is no longer avaiable. Is there funding available from yourselves?
