Additional options with Fike’s ProInert gas system

14 February 2011

Since its European introduction in 2003, Fike says ProInert has become widely accepted as one of the best performing, most cost-effective, and environmentally friendly inert gas fire extinguishing systems. Now the same valve technology is available to the European market with either IG-541 or IG-100, in addition to its standard IG-55.

ProInert's valve design provides a constant flow rate throughout a system discharge. This feature, says the company, allows for the use of low pressure piping across longer spans, providing significant cost savings and reducing potential risk of high peak pressures.

“ProInert, which is UL/FM and LPCB approved, was introduced featuring IG-55, a 50/50 blend of Argon and Nitrogen,” explains Mark Austin, Managing Director of Fike FPS Ltd – Fike’s subsidiary that services the European and Sub Saharan African markets. “These gases are naturally occurring in nature, which means they have zero ozone depletion and zero global warming potential.

“We have now designed the system to be able to use IG-541 (a blend of Argon, Nitrogen and CO2) and IG-100 (Nitrogen only), to satisfy those European customers who prefer alternative agents. We will also be able to use IG-01 (Argon only) in the near future. Each of the gases is environmentally inert, and the system will still operate using Fike’s exclusive pressure-regulating valve technology.”

Due to the constant flow valve, the room venting requirements for ProInert are usually less than traditional, high pressure discharge inert systems, explains Fike. In a typical installation, fewer ProInert containers are required, reducing floor space requirements. The result, says the company, is a safe, high performance fire extinguishing system that provides up to a 60% cost savings.
