Award categories

All categories relate to products or systems launched after 31 May 2009, or projects or initiatives taking place since that date.

BEST DETECTION AND ALARM PRODUCT
This award is open to manufacturers or suppliers of products, systems and services relating to fire detection and alarm. Products covered include alarm panels, smoke heat and flame detectors, sounders, beacons, and voice alarms.

BEST MEANS OF ESCAPE PRODUCT
This award is open to manufacturers and suppliers of products, systems and services relating to means of escape. Products covered include emergency lighting, emergency signage, escape planning and evacuation systems.

BEST PASSIVE PROTECTION PRODUCT
This category is open to any manufacturer or supplier of passive or built-in fire protection products or systems. Products include fire resisting walls, floors and partitions, fire resisting doors, fire retardant coatings and structural fire protection, or systems that can help enhance the fire resistance of a compartment/building.

BEST FIRE SUPPRESSION PRODUCT
This category is open to any manufacturer or supplier of fire suppression products or systems, including sprinklers, water mist and gaseous systems.

INTERNATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
This category is open to any UK organisation or company that has achieved something special in the field of export or international sales. Previous winners have included companies with significantly improved export sales or those demonstrating innovative export strategies with evidence of sales growth. Examples of what the judges will be looking for:
• a company that has broken into a new market with an innovative product or service, or achieved a ‘first’
• quantifiable evidence of your international sales/export achievement
• details of a project or application your company has been involved in with demonstrable success

FIRE SAFETY INSTALLATION AWARD – ACTIVE
This award is open to any company installing, commissioning, maintaining, and servicing fire detection and alarm systems, fixed fire suppression systems, portable fire extinguishers or any other
active fire protection equipment. The judges will be looking for evidence of good design and installation practices and customer service. Entrants can either concentrate on a specific installation,
or on their approach to installations in general, but in either case evidence of success in areas such as customer satisfaction and overcoming challenges will be needed.

FIRE SAFETY INSTALLATION AWARD – PASSIVE
This award is open to any company installing or maintaining passive or ‘built-in’ fire protection. The judges will be looking for evidence of good design and installation practices and customer service. Entrants can either concentrate on a specific installation, or on their approach to installations in general, but in either case evidence of success in areas such as customer satisfaction and overcoming challenges will be needed.

FIRE SAFETY ENGINEERING AWARD
This category is open to any fire engineered project carried out since 31 May 2009, whether or not the building has been completed. The judges will be looking for creative and well researched alternatives to code compliant designs which provide at least the same level of fire safety. The judges will be looking for evidence of how the engineer applied practical fire engineering principles, and of the benefits achieved (not just saving costs) by the fire safety engineering approach to the design and use of the building.

FIRE SAFETY MANAGER AWARD
This award will be presented to the fire safety/facilities manager who has made the most significant reduction in his/her organisation’s risk of fire and contribution to fire safety. The judges will be looking for clear evidence of aspects such as:
• staff training
• fire safety as part of an organisation’s culture
• improvements made in fire safety provisions

BEST TRAINING INITIATIVE
This award is open to any organisation or individual who, in the opinion of the judges, has made a significant contribution to fire safety training either for fire safety professionals and businesses,
or for the wider the community. The judges will be looking for evidence of a structured yet dynamic approach to training, innovative training techniques, and evidence of improved knowledge and practice among those trained.

BEST PARTNERSHIP PROJECT
This award is open to any organisation that has partnered with at least one other organisation to offer a joint approach to fire safety. Judges will be looking for evidence of:
• a clear partnering strategy
• effective ways of working with suppliers and customers
• quality standards for appointing suppliers and partners
• demonstrable improvements in the supply chain

ENVIRONMENTAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
This award is open to any company, organisation or individual which can demonstrate an outstanding commitment to the environment in their working practices, products or projects. The judges will be looking for details of the environmental challenge(s) addressed and the steps taken to overcome it/them, as well as evidence of a continual commitment to environmental trading and culture.
