11:00 | Fire Risk Assessment - cowboys need not apply! | 11.00 | Third Party Certification; products, installers and assessors |
| The upsurge in the necessity for fire risk assessment could be viewed by some as a ‘nice little earner.’ However an inadequate risk assessment carried out by unregulated individuals and companies could prove to be fatal. The Fire Industry Association’s Risk Assessment Council has been created to represent organisations including sole traders, who provide fire risk assessments as a commercial service. The Council has been working to formally establish a best practice, third party approved approach to fire risk assessment . Its members provide Fire Risk Assessments and subscribe to a code of practice to safeguard the interests of the Responsible Person as defined in the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order. This free seminar is for end users and fire safety professionals anxious to know how to approach fire risk assessments and the questions to ask when talking to prospective fire risk assessment companies. | | WCL explains the fundamental elements of third party certification schemes and highlights the value these accredited schemes add to the due diligence process. In these difficult times, cutting costs could mean cutting corners that could compromise life safety. In the event of a fire; fire risk assessment will be one of the first items checked by the Fire and Rescue service. If passive and/or active fire protection products/systems failed, those specified and installed will be investigated. Using certificated products, certificated installers and having the building in which they are installed assessed by certificated fire risk assessors provides a powerful demonstration that due diligences has been served. |

14:45 | Beam us up! | | |
| Optical beam smoke detectors are designed for ‘wide-area’ smoke detection – in large, open spaces. Where use of traditional ‘point’ type detectors may be impractical, inappropriate or ineffective forms of fire protection, beam detectors offer a viable alternative in terms of both cost and efficacy. The FFE seminar will introduce the technology, its benefits and uses, and also offer guidance on best practices for installation and continued usage. The aim is that it should prove both informative and useful for visitors with a broad range of experience levels – from those who have yet to encounter beams before, to those who install them as a matter of routine. | | |
