• Chairman - BS 5588: Part 7 – Atria
• Chairman - BS 7974: PD5 – Evacuation
• Represented HO on Building Regulations Advisory Committee – BRAC
• Chairman of the HO Risk Assessment Working Group, which produced the Report “Community Fire Risk Management” –which in turn led to the creation of “Integrated Risk Management Plans”, now the main strategy process for all Fire & Rescue Services
• Established Building Disaster Assessment Group – Review of Interaction between Building Design and Fire Service Operating Procedures and Equipment – the most fundamental research into fire fighting operations since the second world war.
• Funded by Fire Service Research & Training Trust to develop a system for codifying Modern Methods of Construction 
• Advisor to UK Timber Frame Association
• And most relevant to today - he was responsible for Introducing the need for a simple risk based fire guide to BSI, and as Vice Chairman BSI FSH/14 was specifically responsible for developing the Means of Escape and Fire Safety Management elements of BS 9999
