* Don’t Design a Disaster!
This seminar will highlight best practice within the design process to avoid designing a disaster.
- A ‘cradle to grave’ outline of the specification process
- What is passive fire protection and where does it fit into the building design process?
- How should products and systems be recognised as ‘Fit for Purpose’?
- Where do responsibilities lie with each involved party
- The importance of engineering judgement by a ‘suitably qualified person’
- How can you ensure your specification sticks using existing codes and means for design?
- Cost v Safety – a case study
Who should attend: The specifier - architects, structural engineers, fire consultants/engineers, developers, building contractors, building control officers, quantity surveyors, M&E consultants.
** The Risk Relay – Are you dropping the baton?
This presentation is designed to highlight the essential need for third party certification for products and installers, and give guidance on issues of liability focusing on the RR(FS)O.
- Understanding and specifying third party certification
- Checking in advance of awarding contracts
- The correct approach to awarding and monitoring contracts
- The importance of partnership and channels of communication by all parties throughout the process
- The pitfalls of not using third party certification and guidance (a case study)
- Understanding the parameters of liability through contractors, specifiers, tradesman and occupiers/owners
Who should attend: Project managers/co-ordinators, contractors, building control, surveyors, insurers and anyone involved in delivering a design to completion.
*** Legal Responsibility – What is your defence?
This presentation is designed to highlight the ownership of responsibility that falls on all those professionals and the Responsible Persons at the point of building handover.
- Understanding the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 in relation to passive fire protection
- The requirements and responsibilities of persons on handover day
- What should be in place and understood to comply with Regulation 38?
- Maintaining specification of build through a risk assessed approach
- How much knowledge does the risk assessor need to have about passive protection when assessing the documentation presented by Regulation 38?
- Where does liability sit? Retrospective prosecution?
Who should attend: Fire risk assessors, building owners, landlords, facilities managers, health & safety managers, fire safety officers, social housing officers, main contractors, trade contractors, responsible persons
**** Maintaining Their Lives and Your Liberty!
This presentation is designed to highlight the issues faced in the maintenance of appropriately installed passive fire protection systems
- How to ensure that passive fire protection precautions are kept “suitable and sufficient”
- The dangers to be aware of during refurbishment or a change of use (a risk assessment case study)
- Understanding the meaning of ‘Competent Persons’ and the required level of knowledge
- When should checks be carried out and by whom?
- Where to go for guidance? Tracking back ownership of responsibility
Who should attend: Building trades, FM companies, facilities managers, building control, fire safety officers
